For those of us (nonessentials) at home, we may have a lot of time on our hands. Even if you’re working from home, you may find that you have more time without commuting and breaks. And if you’re working full time, first off, thank you, but also, what do you do on weekends? You probably have some extra time somewhere throughout your week because we can’t go out.
What can we do with the extra time?
Examine Yourself
We hear many terms out there like self-growth, personal development, and self-help, and these are all great. I’ve heard social media influencers suggest learning a new skill, reading a book, or taking time to exercise.
These are all really great ideas, but I challenge you to do this first: Examine yourself.
Psalm 139:23 says, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.”
Let this be our prayer during this quarantine.
If Jesus came today or maybe death came, whichever comes for us because both will come, are you ready?
When we ask God to examine our hearts and our lives, then we have to actually listen. How do we hear God speak? His word.
Listen to God’s Voice
Hebrews 3:7 “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as the Israelites in the wilderness.”
When God does say, hey you need to work on this or that, listen. This is the hard part.
For me, exercise has been something I’ve struggled with, and I feel God drawing me to start jogging again. I felt really motivated the first two weeks, and then I got hurt. I need to get back out there.
What is God asking you to examine and work on?
Job asked God this:
“How many are my iniquities and sins?
Make known to me my rebellion and my sin. Job 13:23
How many are my iniquities and sins? What would God say to you?
We cannot make the excuse anymore that we don’t have time — don’t have time to read the Bible, don’t have time to pray, don’t have time to go to church. God wants to meet us where we are, and right now, we’re stuck at home.
Don’t waste this odd opportunity to meet with God!
