[ I’m still taking San Antonio Family Photography sessions! ]

Hello, Happy New Year and also goodbye!

Not really but yes really.

As I was asking God for a word for 2021, I heard him say: contentment.

At first I brushed it off. As an enneagram 1, I’m all about productivity and getting things done, and contentment sounded to be like settling or doing nothing.

But God quickly changed my perspective. He said: I want you to find contentment in me above all else; to be satisfied; to come to me, the well of living water, when you’re thirsty.

It is hard to admit, but I’ve been going to the wrong well. I’ve been going to the Instagram well for gratification, likes, well done’s, and good job’s.

I think it’s hard for anyone who’s job is on social media where there is reward in gaining followers and attention.

So, it’s time for a little break.

Taking a Break from Instagram, Not Family Photography

So what does this mean? Put simply, I’m going to take some time off of Instagram.

Where can you find me?

  • Book a session: While you may not see me every day like usual, I am still taking clients — families, newborn, maternity, birthdays, engagements! You can find pricing and information about all sessions on my website. Email me at mcphotographysatx@gmail.com or use my contact form.
  • Blog: I will also be blogging here. I have lots of fall sessions to catch up on.
  • VIP Email List: I will also be sending out one or two emails this month with special promotions for my new VIP list!! Sign up to be a VIP family member.

And that’s it! I’ll be back in a few short weeks on Instagram sharing beautiful photos and (hopefully) inspiring content!

More on my Journey for Contentment

If you’d like to know more about my word for 2021 — contentment — you can keep reading:

I first saw it in Philippians 4:11-13: “For I have learned to be satisfied in any circumstance. I know what it means to lack, and I know what it means to experience overwhelming abundance. For I’m trained in the secret of overcoming all things, whether in fullness or in hunger. And I find that the strength of Christ’s explosive power infuses me to conquer every difficulty.”

Philippians 4:11-13

I’ve been reading a book called Nothing to Prove by Jennie Allen, and it’s amazing. She describes a picture of a desert and how many times we find ourselves chasing a mirage of satisfaction — through social media, our jobs, Netflix binging — but when we reach that “mirage,” it’s gone.

When we try to find satisfaction in other things other than God, we will not be satisfied.

So as I began to reflect on what’s been fighting for my time and attention, I immediately knew: Instagram.

Oh how we all have a love/hate relationship with social media, don’t we. We love its connection, entertainment, and ability to market. I love social media, but I also admit, it’s an attention and time sucker!

And so I feel God calling me to take a short break. Busy season is over, so what a better time than now to disconnect a bit, right?

(Although my mind is coming up with all the excuses why this is the exact time I NEED to stay on Instagram to keep up engagement and keep my face out there and this and that and the other.)

But to be honest, I don’t think anyone will really care or notice haha! And I don’t say that in a woe is me kind of way, but it’s just a simple fact. There are so many people, businesses, and messages fighting for our attention, and I’ve been one of those.

And can I be honest?

I’m tired.

I’m tired of the pressure I have put on myself to be seen, to compete, to put out content.

I love it so much, don’t get me wrong, but I just need a break:

  • A break to breathe.
  • A break to find satisfaction and contentment in God.
  • A break to get refreshed and filled by the living water, so I can come back and continue being a LIGHT, which is my true prayer.
  • A break to be with my boys.

This is not just about photography for me; I want to use my talent and voice to glorify God and point people to Jesus. I truly pray you not only see pretty photos, but you feel hope and the peace that only God can give.

And this means I have to trust that God will provide like He always does. Photography isn’t my main income, but it does help A LOT for my family.

SO! If you’ve made it this far and want a spring session, I’d be so grateful to be your photographer. You can book now with a 50% retainer that secures your date this spring!
